Mr Rudge is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Foot and Ankle Surgery.
He is currently the Clinical Director of the Orthopaedic Department at West Hertfordshire NHS Trust having been appointed as a Substantive Consultant there in 2012.
He was subsequently appointed to the position of “College Tutor for Surgery” for the Trust by the Royal College of Surgeons and the East of England Deanery in 2013 and was responsible for higher surgical training across all surgical specialities at West Herts NHS Trust for 6 years until stepping down when he became the Clinical Director.
Mr. Rudge qualified from St. George's Hospital Medical School in 1999. He spent a year working in Perth, Western Australia before returning to a basic surgical training in London. He then undertook his specialist orthopaedic training on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital rotation and also underwent a UK advanced training fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery. He subsequently gained further experience in the management of complex lower limb trauma at the Royal London Hospital.
Mr. Rudge's main surgical interest is in the treatment of all aspects of foot and ankle pathology. He offers a full range of surgical treatments for conditions such as Hallux Valgus (bunions) / Hallux Rigidus (arthritis) and lesser toe deformities. He also treats degenerative foot and ankle conditions including arthritis of the midfoot and hindfoot alongside degenerative tendon conditions such as Tibialis Posterior tendinopathy.
He offers various treatments for sports injuries including lateral ligament reconstruction and ankle arthroscopy. He also works alongside orthotists and physiotherapists to offer a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of foot and ankle conditions.
Mr Rudge ensures that he takes the time to explain things clearly and logically enabling patients to make informed decisions about their treatment.
His Private practice is based at Spire Bushey Hospital where he holds clinics in the new Diagnostic Centre in Centennial Park and operates at the Spire Hospital in Bushey. His NHS Clinics are held in the new Orthopaedic Centre at St Albans, he operates at Watford General Hospital and St. Albans City Hospital.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a member of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and a member of the British Medical Association.
Mr Rudge is a minority shareholder in The Standing CT Company. This company provides imaging studies for which patients are routinely referred where necessary.
Personal profile
Mr Rudge is a family man, married with two daughters. He is a keen, classically trained musician (having been a music scholar and bassoonist in a past life) and is now an avid builder and collector of guitars. His other passions include both film and digital photography and red wine. He continues to enjoy supporting rugby and cricket.
